Mr. Dan Hensley and the Step by Step after school program would like to invite the parents of the After-school Tutoring Program to Family Night November 17th at 3:45-pm-4:45pm. We will have crafts, dinner, and enjoy the progress your child has made. We hope to see you there!
CMS 8th grade students participated in the Get A Life program yesterday. The program is provided by the WV Treasury Department and allows students to get an idea of a monthly salary and expenses. Students are first given a minimum wage job and have to go from various stations paying bills (house, vehicle, insurance, utilities, gas, groceries, and medical expenses). The second round they are given a job with specialized training, a certification or a degree. The goal is to get students to start thinking about their future and in particular their career/college choices.
CMS 8th graders toured the RRW Career and Technology Center. Students learned about the programs and certifications that are available. Programs of study include Automotive Technology and Collision Repair, Carpentry, Computer System Repair, Electrical, HVAC Technician, Industrial Equipment Maintenance, Law Enforcement, Prostart Restaurant Management, Therapeutic Services (nursing), and Welding. They can attend these programs beginning their 10th-grade year.
Fifth Grade had a great time at our first PBIS award! Moana was wonderful!

8th Grade Science, Cliff with WVU STEAM TAC, brought hydraulic kits for Mrs. Moore's students. Students were encouraged to create a hydraulic claw. Cliff was able to keep a few of the designs and take them back with him. The students worked hard today and we are very proud of them. We’re excited to have Cliff come back!

Mrs. Lane's 2nd and 4th blocks finished up their unit on “The Tell-Tale Heart” today by doing an escape room to uncover where the old man’s hideous heart was hidden in the classroom! To find clues to the whereabouts of the heart, students had to do a close reading of the story and answer questions to solve puzzles and piece together the plot to reveal the clues!
Mrs. Farley's science students have been learning about how organisms obtain energy while working in centers to create a plant circle book. They have also studied the flow of energy in an ecosystem while modeling food chains.

Ms. Lockler’s 8th grade ELA classes chose traits that best-revealed aspects of themselves. They used outlines of their faces to create character selfies.
Our 5th Grade Science class has been learning, discovering, and investigating MATTER! We’ve studied closely what matter is (and isn’t), the properties of matter, mixtures and solutions, physical and chemical changes to matter, and the differences between solids, liquids, and gases.
It’s been a very “hands-on” unit for us and we’ve learned quite a bit in the process. We are taking our new ideas and applying them to Unit 2 - Matter in Ecosystems. Please challenge your child to tell you a little about the activities we have completed and are in the process of working on. 🧫🧪🔬
